Exclamation Upgrading from Old Linkcode Format to New Linkcode Format

    Hello!

Have you noticed that Linkbucks now issues links using a new linkcode format?

Under the old format, links looked like this: http://linkcode.linkbucks.com/

Under the new format, links look like this: http://www.linkbucks.com/linkcode/

For at least the next six months, all old-format linkcodes on supported alias domains will continue to work. After that period, we will notify affected publishers and phase out support.

There are a handful of alias domains we have discontinued support for, and those link codes will cease to work sometime in the next three months. If you are using a linkcode on one of these domains, your link is currently redirecting to this URL:
http://warning-this-linkcode-will-cease-working-soon.www.linkbucksdns.com/linkcode/. So if you're seeing this URL then now's a good time to make a new linkcode.

You Can Manually Switch to the New Linkcode Format

You don't have to generate a new linkcode to update to the new format! All old-format linkcodes will work if you simply change the URL to meet the new linkcode format as described above.

We encourage you to do this with your existing old-format linkcodes. Feel free to ask questions if you need any assistance.

    Happy linking
    --Atticus

We've received a few support emails regarding some URLs that are showing up in web logs. In addition to the hostname warning about discontinued linkcodes, there is another hostname viewers may encounter.

    http://your-dns-is-broken-let-me-help.www.linkbucksdns.com/linkcode

With the switchover to the new linkcode format, we set up a system to automatically redirect old linkcodes to the new format.

Without going into too much detail, we discovered a problem upon switching to the new linkcode format. We found that certain viewers' ISPs were unable to properly redirect from the old format to the new format. Any time we detect a viewer experiencing this problem we can correct it by redirecting them to http://your-dns-is-broken-let-me-help.www.linkbucksdns.com/linkcode. With the new URL, the viewer's ISP follows the correct path and they are able to reach Linkbucks; otherwise, without this you would lose that potential viewer to your linkcode.

Regarding concerns over users with hundreds/thousands of active old format link codes

After the six month time period we will consider disabling old format linkcodes. There's the possibility we won't discontinue support for them if there's still a large enough demand.

We strongly encourage you to update to the new format for all existing linkcodes for another reason -- new format linkcodes are *way* faster than old format linkcodes!

Finally, all old format linkcodes on linkbucks.com are not yet presently redirecting to the new format automatically like the other alias domains. This change will be coming sometime in the next month or two.

Regarding which alias domains are discontinued

If you can select the domain when making new links, then it is fully supported going forward. All discontinued alias domains are no longer available for creating new links.

You only need to switch from old format to new (e.g. http://linkcode.linkbucks.com/ -> http://www.linkbucks.com/linkcode). If you need any assistance then feel free to submit a support request and we'll gladly help you.

Please do not discontinue the old format, there is no way that I can manually change +20,000 links that are posted all over the internet in forums, gallery dumps comments etc. they are still getting thousands of clicks every month. If you discontinue the old format this site and many members including myself will lose tons of money! I will be super bummed if this happens please Linkbucks make it so that the old format works forever! or at least more than another 6 months. There is still a huge demand for the old format!

There has been a lot of concern over the possible discontinuation of old format links after six months. We've decided to instead wait on this decision for a full year. Check back in January 2015 on that subject.
    You still have much time.

This difference, that in high clicks you have less earning and in less clicks high earning is because of clicks from different countries. Some countries give higher earnings like Canada, UK but some countries (in fact many) like India, Pakistan, Iran, Nepal, etc give less earnings. Thats why you are having such difference in earnings.
